Orioles Crush Yankees Again

ORIOLES 7
YANKEES 5

OK, now you can be a little concerned.

Even though it is only the second game of the season, it is not a good sign when a team's top two starters get whacked on any occasion. When the needed him to help the team rebound from C.C. Sabathia's meltdown on Monday, Chien Ming Wang was atrocious, surrendoring seven runs on nine hits in just three and two thirds innings. Wang just didn't have anything, as he walked three batters and struck out none. His ERA is 17.18.

In the bottom of the first with Adam Jones on, Nick Markakis drove a double to center to drive home Jones for the games first run. Later, Aubrey Huff drove in Markakis with a double to right field to make it 2-0 Orioles.

Finally, in the fourth, Wang completely imploded. With Luke Scott and Felix Pie on base, Greg Zaun scored a ground rule double to center as the ball bounced off the warning track and over the wall, allowing Scott to score. Ceaser Izturis, who has already killed the Yankees in this seris grounded out to first to allow Pie to score to make it 4-1 Orioles. Two batters later, Markakis delievered again, blasting a two run homer to right to make it 7-1 Orioles. That was it for Wang, who was taken out of the game for Edwar Ramirez.

The Yankees tried to make it interesting in the ninth, when Derek Jeter hit his first home run of the season, a two run job to cut the deficit to 7-4. Baltimore closer George Sherrill had to come into the game at this point and went ahead and surrendered a double to Mark Texieria to drive home Johnnny Damon, cutting the Oriole lead to 7-5. However, Sherrill was able to get Hideki Matsui to pop out to end the game and push Baltimore to a 2-0 start on the season. The Yankees fall to 0-2. BOXSCORE.
