Rangers fall in game one vs. Capitals

CAPITALS 2
RANGERS 1
WSH leads 1-0

A 1-0 lead in the third period was not enough for the New York Rangers, who watched the Washington Captials come all the way back to tie the game late in the third period, and eventually beat the Rangers 2-1 in game one of the first round of the NHL playoffs.

The game was a scoreless tie until Matt Gilroy scored the go-ahead go for the Blue Shirts 1:56 into the third period. The Rangers, as an eighth seed were 3-1 against the Capitals during the regular season, and many figured they will give Washington all it could handle in this series, and for a good portion of game one, it looked like upset city was in the offing.

However with time expiring in regulation, the Capitals MVP Alex Ovechkin scored the tying goal to force overtime.

The two teams battled for 18 long minutes, as both Henrik Lundqvist and Michael Neurvich were nearly unstoppable in front of the nets.

Finally, the Capitals found some penetration in Lundqvist and scored the winning goal with less than two minutes to go from Alexander Semin.

This could still be a positive series for New York; they could still win it, but will have to shake the disappointment of game one quickly.
