There are three weeks left in the 2014 NFL season, and the Jets stand at 2-11 joining the likes of the Raiders, Jaguars, Titans, and Buccaneers with equally horrific records. Call it the wasteland of the NFL -- that is where the Jets are, and have been now for way too long. Breaking down the Rex Ryan/Mike Tannenbaum, and Rex Ryan/John Idzik eras would require book length proportions that might challenge the volumes of the Hobbit, with long chapters dedicated to Buttfumbles, Tebow Time, McElroy Time, bad drafts, Footgate, Geno Smith (as if he needs an entire chapter), and, yes, even a chapter about Twitter rants by Eric Decker's wife. But, at the end of the day there is really one man to blame for everything that has swirled around this ball club the past few years: Woody Johnson. VIKINGS 30 JETS 24 - OT At least the Jets are consistent. Even when they find a way to play fairly well, they still manage to find a way to lose a football game in excruciating fashion. The latest scene of the crime: Minnesota. The result: an overtime loss to the equally inept Minnesota Vikings. If you needed a game about the instruction in poor tackling, Sunday's Jets-Vikings was a great example, as neither team could find a way to make a tackle in a big spot, especially the Jets who watched Jarius Wright dance down the sidelines on an 87-yard game winning touchdown to beat them in overtime. The Jets have nobody to blame but themselves for the loss on Sunday. While Geno Smith played fairly well, the offense still made a series of mistakes that came back to haunt them throughout the afternoon. GIANTS 36 TITANS 7 At leas the Giants didn't blow this one. In one of the days biggest blowouts the Giants had a much needed laugher taking care of the listless and pathetic Tennessee Titans, 36-7 in Nashville. While there is not much to write about this game, it was New York's first victory in over two months, ending a horrifying seven-game losing streak that put just about everyone's job on notice. A victory will certainly heal things a little bit for a team that is not going anywhere this year. Who knows a good finish may save Tom Coughlin again for the second straight December, that is if the Giants play like they did Sunday in their final three games. The star of the show: Odell Beckham Jr. The Giants rookie receiver again was the difference for Big Blue, hauling in 11 passes for 130 yards and a touchdown. The Yankees have sent a missive to closer David Robertson: lower your price, or we are moving on. New York made a move it had to make in order to bolster its bullpen, signing crafty left hander Andrew Miller on Friday afternoon to a step four-year $36 million contract; this for someone who won't even close for them. The Yankees made the move after initially offering Miller a reported $32 million, and increased it to $36 million after an unnamed team offered him $40 million. Miller decided to take less and join the Yankees. While his career numbers do not jump of the page (a career 4.91 ERA) it is the work that 6-7 lefty has put together the past two years that is so impressive. Last season he was 5-5 with a 2.02 ERA in combined duty with the Red Sox and orioles. In fact, in 23 games with Baltimore, he helped push that team to a divisional title pitching to a 1.34 ERA and a 0.600 WHIP. He was really good in a division where offense comes first. The Yankees search for a shortstop to replace Derek Jeter, at least for the short term, will be former Arizona Diamondback Didi Gregorius , after the Bronx Bombers pulled off a trade with Arizona days before the Winter Meetings kick off in San Diego. The acquisition was part of a three team deal involving the Yankees, D-Backs and Tigers. The Tigers received rookie reliever Shane Greene from the Yankees, while Arizona received minor league prospects. It is debatable whether Gregorius will be in the long range plans for the Yankees at short. For starters, Gregorius is as light hitting as they come, a career .243 hitter, who hit .226 with 6 homers and 27 RBI this season. He is known more for his defensive prowess, and 24 years old it makes you wonder why a team like Arizona was so smitten to get rid of him. DOLPHINS 16 JETS 13  There are no more excuses when it comes to the New York Jets. Monday night's performance, no matter how you slice it, was pitiful. The Jets found a way to set football back a few years by putting together one of the most vanilla game plans known to man by running the football an astounding 49 times and only throwing the ball a total of 13. How Rex Ryan expected to win with that strategy tells you all you need to know about his future as a head coach with the Jets. And the joke of it is, they almost got away with it. In the modern day NFL you cannot win ball games by not passing the football. The game is too wide open, too fast, and too big for teams to channel the 1940s NFL with power sweeps, draw plays and the such. Yet, don't tell that to the Jets who proved on Monday that they have no faith in Geno Smith at all. JAGUARS 25 GIANTS 24 In 1995 Tom Coughlin left his position as head coach at Boston College to take over the NFL expansion Jacksonville Jaguars as its head coach. Coughlin put Jacksonville on the NFL map, turning the Jags into a perennial playoff contender in the late 90s with a pair of AFC Championship Game appearances, and it's fair to say that ever since he left the Jaguars in 2004 that franchise has never been the same. It's ironic in lot of ways that Coughlin's storied coaching career with the Giants might have officially come to a close in the same city in which his NFL journey began, Jacksonville. Sure the Giants came into their game at 3-8, riding a six game losing streak. It has been a bad season, but to lose a game to the once 1-10 Jaguars is excusable.
