Favre to Jets or Bucs Likely Dead

It appears that any trade involving Brett Favre going to the New York Jets or Tampa Bay Buccaneers is dead, as a report from ESPN.com reports that Favre has not spoken to either ball club. It appears he has no interest whatsoever to play for either team.

Favre is still presistent on playing in Green Bay or somewhere else in the NFC North, and it seems that the Packers will have to succumb to his demands.

The Packers are still holding firm on not welcoming Favre to camp. Yesturday, team president Mark Murphy offered Favre $20 million over 10 years, a little more than $2 million a year, to stay retired and away from the Packers.

The Packers have also threatened that if Favre does show up to camp, then he would be limited to individual drills, not team drills.

Also, the Packers are considering trading Favre to the Vikings or Bears. It sounds ridiculus, but the Packers may be in a situation where Favre will not ok a trade to the Jets or Bucs, and will only go where he wants if the Packers want some semblence of peace.

Of course there won't be any peace if Favre is in a Viking or Bear uniform. There will be more discontent and media attention when the Packers play one of these teams twice a year.

As for the Jets and Bucs, the Bucs really don't need Favre to win; they have Jeff Garcia, who is solid enough to get the Buccaneers into the playoffs and stay in contention all year long. But the Jets are in big trouble, they are now stuck with Chad Pennington and Kellen Clemens. Now they have to prey that one of them actually does something positive in camp and show that they can lead the club. So far both Pennington and Clemens have been awful in camp, prompting the Jets desire to have Favre, but he doesn't want to come to New York.
