The Yankees continue to beat up their AL Wild Card competition as they destroyed the once hot Minnesota Twins 12-4 at the Stadium.
The Bombers got it going early and often against Minnesota starter Nate Blackburn, touching him up for six runs, three earned, in just one and two thirds innings.
It started with a two - run homer by Alex Rodriguez to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead in the first inning.
In the second inning, with the bases loaded, Johnny Damon, who has returned from the DL, reached on a fielders choice to bring home Melky Cabrera to make it 3-2. Derek Jeter than singled to bring home Jose Molina. Later, Bobby Abreu grounded into a fielders choice to plate Brett Gardner. Finally A-Rod did it again with a single to left to bring home Damon. 6-2 Yankees.
In the third the Yankees added on, as Robinson Cano continues to turn around his season with a solo homerun to right; it is his eighth homer of the year.
Finally in the sixth, Jeter homered to right field to make it 10-3. Cano later singled to bring home A-Rod making it 12-3.
The win is the Yankees fourth in a row, and they are only a game behind Minnesota for second place in the Wild Card race.
