TWINS 2
The Yankees are hot! Red HOT! They continue to chop away in the AL Wild Card and AL East race, as they seem determined to overcome all of the injuries and misfortune that plauged them in the first half.
Tonight the Yankees dismantled the Minnesota Twins 8-2, disparaging any thoughts that this offense is still struggling. They are not.
Down 2-1 in the sixth, the Yankee bats exploded.
First, Johnny Damon led off with a single to center. Two batters later, Bobby Abreu blasted his 11th homer of the year to give the Yankees a 3-2 lead. A-Rod later singled, Jason Giambi walked and Robinson Cano drove in A-Rod with a single of his own to make it 4-2.
Finally, in the seventh the Yankees put it away, as Derek Jeter doubled to bring home Damon. Later Abreu who had a big night with three RBI, doubled in Jeter to give the Bombers a 6-2 advantage. Finally, Giambi singled home Abreu to make it 8-2.
It was a fantastic comeback for the Yankees, who are clearly playing their best baseball of the year. They have destroyed Oakland and Minnesota, two teams that were ahead of them in the wild card race, and now they are on the presipous of another backyard barn-burnner with the Boston Red Sox. Bring it on!!!
