Well, I guess that eight game winnings streak means little now. The Yankees have lost two in a row, and got totally spanked by the happless Baltimore Orioles, Monday Night.
Even with the loss, the Yankees didn't lose any ground in the AL East and Wild Card race, as the Red Sox lost to the Angles and the Rays lost to the Blue Jays today as well.
The Orioles knocked around Mike Mussina all night long; it was the veteran right-hander's worst start of the year to date. Mussina was charged with six runs and two homers in just five innings. His ERA is now 3.56 and is now 13-7 on the year.
In the second inning, former Red Sox Kevin Millar blasted a three-run jack to left to give the Orioles an early 3-0 lead. A few batters later, Ramon Hernandez blasted a solo shot to make it 4-0.
Later, in the fifth Baltimore blew the doors wide open. Adam Jones, whom the Orioles got in the Eric Bedard trade with Seattle, laced a tripple to right to bring Brian Roberts to make it 5-0. In the sixth, Jones, added to his big night, blasting a grand-slam to deep left field to make it 11-0 O's. It was a total disaster for the Yankees, but I guess they were do for one of these.
