Chris Mad Dog Russo is Done With WFAN

Breaking news that just happened at around 10:10 p.m. Thursday night.

Christoper "Mad Dog" Russo who was a key player in the weekly afternoon "Mike and the Mad Dog Radio Show" has been released from his contract by WFAN. According to a story from the New York Post, Russo and WFAN Radio have "agreed to go seperate ways." (Read the Article).

Meanwhile, Mike Francesa has signed a multi-year contract with WFAN to remain in his regular spot - this time flying solo.

There were no specifics as to why Russo was let go. This ends speculation that started back in June when a Newsday article from June 22 reported that there could be a split between Russo and Francessa because the two were not getting along anymore.

The next week, Russo went on the air and said that there were no problems between he and Francessa and that the two had worked things out.

However, when Francessa returned after a brief vacation to do a show before the Yankee-Met Subway Series, Francessa hinted that something was going on behind the scenes.

Now, the article from the New York Post says that Francessa will host the show alone for the "short term," but, knowing how aburpt and surly Francessa can be, it is not likey that he will want to be paired with anyone.

Possible replacements could be Joe Beningo, host of the mid-day show; Chris Carlin, co-host of SNY's "LoudMouths," who once produced the "Mike and the Mad Dog Show" for a few years, and maybe Marc Malusis, who is a rising star in the WFAN orgainization, spliting time with Tony Page on the overnights.

But, chances are Francessa will want the show all to himself since he is usually selfish and somewhat of a blowhard, who has to get his views across.

Don't be surprised if Russo lands at ESPN Radio or Satellite Radio and competes with Francessa and the FAN sometime in the future.
