Giants Like Mike

Yes call it Brett Favre Part II, only this time plug in Favre's buddy Michael Strahan into the staring role of "Should I Stay or Should I Go Now."

A day after learing that Osi Umenyiora is now out for the season after suffering a torn ligiment in his left knee is a preseason game against the New York Jets, the Giants are very much interested in bringing back the gap-toothed leader to the Meadowlands.

According to a story on New York Post.com, the Giants' people are talking to Stahan's people about a comeback. However, unlike the Favre situation, where the quaterback never wanted to retire and recognized the decision as a mistake in early July, Strahan signed a sweet $4.5 million deal to work with Terry Bradshaw, Howie Long and Jimmy Johnson on the FOX NFL SUNDAY Pregame show in June.

Also, unlike Favre, Strahan retired in June when mandatory workouts were taking place, and with training camp in the horizon. So, one would thing that Strahan would have had a good gauge on whether he was really done with playing at that point.

Then again, Starhan is a guy who always hated to practice and really just loved playing on Sundays. (Sounds like Favre doesn't it). Remember last year, Strahan missed all of camp, raising a rucous and came back just before the regular season opener to play.

If he does take the Giants offer, don't expect Strahan to start and play 60 minutes in week one or two. The Giants will probably treat the first two games like preseason for Strahan, who is not in football shape yet. He's in great physical shape for a healthy life, but does not have the nessecary bulk needed to play the defensive end position.

If nothing else, the Giants will scower the wire for any players that become available after rosters are cut to the mandatory 53. Maybe a big name will show up on the radar? Who knows? A trade is unlikely, because it will be hard for a team to wing a trade at this point in the season, because teams don't want to start sheeding nessecary roster spots and depth when the regular season is about to begin.
