Jets Kids Derail Browns

JETS 24
BROWNS 20
Brett Favre didn't play tonight, as he hung out with his new teammates on the sideline at Browns Stadium in Cleveland. Favre seemed nervous as he began the process of getting to know new people and a new team for the first time since 1992, as he had an unsure look on his face in a postgame interview with CBS's Samantha Ryan.
Meanwhile, Favre's teammates found a way to beat the Browns in the Jets preseason opener. The combination of young and aggressive play from the likes of third string quaterback Brett Ratliff, wide reciever David Clowney and the impressive cornerback Derek Lowrey propelled the Jets to victory.
With the Browns up 7-0 early in the first, the game was delayed an hour by a severe thunderstorm, and once the delay was over the Jets thundered past Cleveland.
First Ratlif hit a wide open Clowney down the middle of the field at the 30. Clowney took the ball the rest of the way for the touchdown, a total of 71 yards to tie the game at seven.
Fast forward to the fourth quarter with New York down 20-10, the Jets stormed back. Ratliff hit Clowney again, this time for 70 yards to get the Jets to within three, 20-17. I guess there is more than one Brett who can sling down the field?!
Then, the Jets defense clamped down. Lowery, along with Derek Coleman and Hank Poteat made it nearly impossible for Cleveland's Ken Dorsey to complete a pass. Every throw he put up was either knocked down, or picked off. It was a surprise that Cleveland didn't change up the gameplan.
The biggest play of the came at the hands of Lowery, who returned a punt 62 yards for the go-ahead TD to give the Jets a 24-20 lead. Later, Lowery picked off a Dorsey pass in the endzone to preserve the Jets lead. Lowery was all over the field tonight.
It got interesting at the end, as the Jets rookies made stupid mistakes. First there was a roughing the passer call that put the ball at the Jet 15 yard line with less than a minute to go. The Browns struggled to complete any passes here, and the Jets had the game won, until Lowery was called for badly called pass interference on 4th down.
The ball was moved to the five, but Dorsey again could not complete a pass, as the Jets secondary knocked down all four passes in the endzone to win the game.
