Quiet Heart Beat for Yankees

YANKEES 5
ORIOLES 3

Maybe the Yankees aren't dead yet. After the Red Sox got blown away by the Blue Jays by a score of 11-0, the Yankees had a chance to trim the Red Sox Wild Card lead to five, if they could take care of businees against the Orioles.

With Johnny Damon on second, Alex Rodriguez sent a double to center to drive home Damon to give New York a quick 1-0 lead. Later Jason Giambi singled to second base to score Rodriguiez.

Yet the Yankees gave up the lead. The infamous Carl Pavano surrendered three runs in the second inning to give the O's a 3-2 lead. Yet Pavano settled down and lasted five innings to earn the victory; his first in years.

Later in the third, Giambi blasted a two run homer to center field to give the Yankees a 4-3 lead. Finally, in the seventh, Hideki Matsui is making good on his comeback, hitting his second homerun in as many days to give New York a 5-3 lead.

The Yankee bullpen did the job, as Mariano Rivera earned his 30 save of the year.
