COWBOYS 14
We know that the Giants are good, but the story of the day, after New York's dominating 35-14 victory of the Dallas Cowboys, is whether this is the beginning of the end for Dallas. Could the 'Boys be headed for Raider like futility? Well, when your owner demands that one of the world's most pathetic athletes, Brooks Bollinger , should be at quarterback, you know the Cowboys are falling apart.
Once Bollinger entered the game, the Giants had a party. The Giants harassed Bollinger all night, sacking the puny quarterback around like a Raggedy Ann doll. Bollinger was somewhat better than Brad Johnson, statistically, but the fact remains that Dallas would have had a better chance to win if Johnson had remained in the game.
On Bollinger's first pass, it was picked off by James Butler, setting up the Giants at the Cowboys 18 yard line. Brandon Jacobs proceeded to take it for the score to give New York a 28-7 lead.
Eli Manning was sharp. He completed 16 of 27 passes for 147 yards with three touchdowns and one interception. All three of Manning's touchdowns came in the first half. He hit Kevin Boss from 13 yards out for the 7-0 lead. Later, he hit Steve Smith for a five yard score. Finally, in the second quater, Manning drilled the ball between two Dallas defenders to Amani Toomer for the touchdown.
The Giants are sitting pretty at 7-1, well ahead of everyone in the NFC. The Giants are well on their way to clinching home field through the playoffs, a stark change from last year, where New York spent the entire post-season on the road.
As for Dallas, one has to wonder if Jerry Jones will drop the axe on Head Coach Wade Phillips. According to the FOX broadcast, Jones was in the Cowboy locker room at halftime ... that's not a good sign. By the time you read this blog, Phillips could be finished. Maybe he should take Bollinger with him! Just a thought.
