ANGELS 9
When you're hot, you're hot!
Right now, no team in the American League is as hot as the Yankees. Not only have they won four straight after last weekend's debacle in Boston, the Yankees are winning games against some of their toughest rivals, namely the L.A. Angels.
After a great outing by Andy Pettitte turned bad with a six run Angels sixth inning, the Yankees stormed back in the eighth and ninth innings to capture the game on a wild night in the Bronx.
The Bombers were down 9-4 going into the bottom of the eighth, and then the bats woke up. With one out in the inning, Robinson Cano doubled to get things going. Jorge Posada walked and Brett Gardner singled to load the bases. Next, Melky Cabrera, who has been swinging a torrid bat of late, singled to left to drive in Cano to cut the Angels lead to 9-5. Ramiro Pena, who had a huge night (3 for 4 with 2 RBIs) at third for the Yankees, singled to right to drive in Posada and Gardner to cut the lead to 9-7. Derek Jeter closed out the inning with a ground out, to drive in Cabrera, cutting the Angel lead to 9-8.
The Bronx was rockin'.
After Jonathan Albaladejo pitched a perfect ninth, the Yankee bats went right back to work. With Brian Fuentes, Mark Texieria worked out a lead off walk, which is never a good sign for a pitcher. Players that lead off with a walk more often than not come around to score. Hideki Matsui and Cano followed with singles to load 'em up, and Jorge Posada capped it off with a two run single to left center giving the Yankees the victory. A thrilling night for the Bombers who now improve to 13-10 on the season. BOX SCORE.
