Yankees Outduel Sox to Win Opening Series

YANKEES 2
RED SOX 1

Back in October, one of the few pitchers to beat the Yankees was John Lackey, when he beat the Yankees 7-6 in crucial game five of the ALCS, as the Angels forced the Yankees to go back home to the Bronx to clinch the AL title. It was Lackey's performance against the Yankees, that made him a big ticket free agent this winter.

Low and behold, Lackey got $85 million to pitch for Boston. Lackey went up against Andy Petttitte, the man who won three series clinching game for New York in October. Clearly, a terrific battle for early in the season, and it was.

Pettitte went six brilliant innings, giving up only a run on six hits, while Lackey went six shut out innings, allowing three hits.

However, for the second straight day, the Red Sox pen imploded. Former Met, Scott Schoenweis, surrenderd a RBI single to Nick Swisher to tie the game at one.

Chan Ho Park, who was lit up Sunday, was great Wednesday. Park gave the Yankees three shut out innings, to force extra innings. Park earned the win tonight.

In the tenth, the Bombers got to nemisis Jonathan Papelbon, knocking him around two runs and two walks for the loss. First, Curtis Granderson hit his second homer of the year to right to give the Yankees a 2-1 lead. Then Mark Teixeria grounded into an RBI with the bases loaded to bring in Brett Gardner.

The Yankees completed their first series of 2010 at 2-1.
