Mets stink it up in home opener

The day started with a sprinkling of boos from the handful of fans that actually showed up at Citi Field, and the day ended with very loud boos all over the place.

The Mets stunk it up big time in their home opener, as the Washington National looked like world beaters, beating up the Mets 6-2.

The Mets never gave themselves a shot in this game, leaving six men on bases, including four men on base through the first five innings of the day. The Mets trailed 3-2 for much of day, but just couldn't cash in. The left Lucas Duda on second base in the fifth; they stranded Carlos Beltran on second in the sixth, and stranded Brad Emaus and Josh Thole, who drew back-to-back walks, in the seventh.

The Nationals made them pay. A three run rally by the Nats, keyed by a two run single by Ivan "Pudge" Rodriguez blew the doors right off the Citi Field, as the Mets looked lifeless in their season opener at home.

Maybe they weren't motivated because of the lack of fan support, then again maybe the Mets just aren't that good. I take the ladder.
