Not dead yet. Rangers beat Devils, now wait for playoff fate
The Rangers indeed have a slight pulse.
In desperate need of a win to stay alive for a playoff berth, the New York Rangers staged a huge second period comeback to beat the Devils 5-2 at Madison Square Garden.
The Rangers trailed 2-1 after one period, but three unanswered goals by New York in the second period spurred the Blue Shirts to victory. Wojtek Wolski opened up the scoring in the second with his 12th goal of the season to tie the game 1:52 into the period. Later, goals by Ryan McDonagh and Brandon Prust put the Rangers up for good 4-2.
Devils future Hall of Fame goalie Martin Brodeur couldn't handle the desperate Ranger offense. He surrendered five goals on 29 shots for the lose. The Devils finish a disappointing season 37-45.
As for the Rangers Henrik Lundqvist was brilliant. After allowing two goals in the first period, he didn't give up a single goal, recording 24 saves on 26 shots on the day.
Now the Rangers have to wait for the Hurricanes to play their game. If the Hurricanes lose in either regulation or in overtime, the Rangers are in the playoffs. If the Hurricanes win, the Rangers are out of the playoffs.
