Hall of Fame catcher and former Mets great Gary Carter passed away after losing his six month battle with brain cancer. His condition worsened in recent weeks and months, and he was unable to attend several public events near his Florida home.
Carter was 57 years old.
He spent most of his career as the catcher of the Montreal Expos before coming to the Mets in 1985 and became a key piece to the Mets turnaround in the late '80s. Carter capped off his great career with a World Series title in 1986 with the Mets.
No word about what the Mets plan to do to honor his memory.
