Saquon Shows Flashes, but Mayfield Torches Giants

BROWNS 20 - GIANTS 10

It was supposed to be Saquon Barkley's night to shine, but by the end of the night, it was Browns rookie quarterback Baker Mayfield who dominated the headlines.

The polarizing former Oklahoma Sooners quarterback shredded the Giants backups, completing 11 of 20 passes for 212 yards and two touchdowns. He had good pocket presence, wasn't rattled by the moment, and delivered a number of accurate throws.

It was impressive showing from the guy the Browns selected number 1 overall pick in the 2018 Draft. While Mayfield will not overtake Tyrod Taylor for the opening day starting job, it was a good first impression for a franchise that has been mired in the muck for far too long.

As for the Giants, Big Blue got a taste of what Saquon Barkley can bring to the table. On the first play of scrimmage, Barkely side-stepped a couple of tacklers, and pushed his engine into second gear, dashing down the sideline for a 39-yard run. While he only had four yards on three carries after the opening play, Barkley showed Giants fans enough in Week 1 of the preseason.

The Giants believe that Barkley and a revamped offensive line is going to be a huge difference for quarterback Eli Manning over the long haul. Speaking of Manning, he played a couple of series, didn't do a whole heck of a lot, completing four of seven passes for 26 yards.

The Giants (0-1) will visit the Detroit Lions next week. Expect to see the starters play deep into the second quarter.
