Giants Pound Bumbling Sanchez and Redskins

GIANTS 40 - REDSKINS 16

Maybe Mark Sanchez should try his shot at selling cars, because football just isn't working out for him. The former Jets buttfumble extraordinaire was at his putrid best throwing two picks and decimating any hopes for the sinking Redskins as the Giants pounded Washington 40-16. The Giants have now won four of their last five and stand at 5-8.

Imagine if the Giants had actually won some of these close losses they suffered earlier in the year, the narrative about this 2018 season would certainly be different, especially in the topsy-turvy NFC East.

But there the Giants were with a gift from the football gods with Sanchez under center for the Skins. It didn't take long for Sanchez to cue up his greatest hits with a pick-six, on a wobbly pass that picked off by Curtis Riely who walked into the end zone for the touchdown to make it 7-0.

The pick-six only opened the floodgates for Big Blue who went on to pour on 34 unanswered points before halftime.

Saquon Barkley of course was the story for the Giants offensively. The rookie sensation gashed the Redskins for 170 yards on the ground and another 27 through the air, as he continues to rack up yards and rookie records. Barkley's 78-yard dash to the end zone gave New York a 17-0 advantage.

After Alec Olgetree picked off Sanchez at Washington's own 28 yard line, the Giants wasted no time when Eli Manning hit Sterling Shepherd from three-yards out to blow it open at 24-0.

After a Washington three-and-out, the Manning and Barkley show continued to pummel the Redskins on New York's next possession. A 52-yard blast by Barkley spearhead New York's final touchdown drive of the first half, with Manning capping things off with his second touchdown of the game to make it 31-0.

Manning finished the day with 197 yards passing and three touchdowns.

There is a rapid culture change happening within these Giants. They are starting to believe in one another. While the Giants are mathematically still alive for the postseason, they are likely spending January on their couch. Still New York is setting a great trend for next season by ending this one with a lot of positive feeling.
