Ramirez and Santana Power Indians Over Yankees

INDIANS 19
YANKEES 5

So this is what life is like when the Yankees aren't playing the Baltimore Orioles?

After the Bronx Bombers spent the better part of the last two weeks beating up on the Orioles and Toronto Blue Jays, the Yanks got a rude reminder of how good the competition really is in the American League on Thursday.

The Cleveland Indians demolished the Yankees 19-5, Thursday, sending the message that if the Yankees are going to advance against some of the better competition in the AL, they better start pitching, and pitching lights out.

The Indians tattooed Yankees starter Chad Green for five runs in just a third of an inning, before pounding the Yankees pen for the rest of the evening.

It didn't take Cleveland long to put this game away. A grand slam by Jose Ramirez in the top of the first gave the Indians a 4-0 lead.  Jason Kipnis would follow with a solo shot of his own to build the lead to five.

Roberto Perez capped off the stellar opening for Cleveland, blasting a two-run shot to right to give the Indians a 7-0 lead.

Of course the party didn't end there. Another homer by Ramirez, this one a two-run shot in the top of the second built a 9-1 lead. Ramirez had a huge night for the Indians, driving in six runs on two hits, both of which were homers.

By the fourth inning, Santana followed with a two-run bomb of his own to make it 11-1. The homer proved to be the first of two on the night for Santana, who hit a solo shot in the eighth to make it 19-4.

Overall, the Indians connected on seven homers, the first time they reached the mark since 2013. The 24 hits Cleveland recorded Thursday was the most hits they had a Yankees Stadium since 2009 when Cleveland collected 25 hits in a blowout victory.

As for the Yankees, they didn't do much. Yes, Gleyber Torres, Gary Sanchez and Didi Gregarious all homered, but it was all for not as New York couldn't keep with the Indians powersurge.

The Yankees will try to make Thursday's loss a wake-up call when these same two teams meet again on Friday.
