EAGLES 31 - JETS 6
There is a line in the trailer for the critically acclaimed, and, in the case of some circles, controversial, film "JOKER" that is perfect right about now. "I thought my life was a tragedy, but instead I realized it's a comedy." Nothing could be more true about the New York Jets.
They are a comedy, and a tragedy all rolled into one big pile of stink.
Maybe the movie should be called "Jets" instead of "Joker?"
For the third consecutive game the Jets were uncompetitive. For the second straight game Luke Falk looked like a fish out of water. For the fourth straight game, head coach Adam Gase had no answers for an offense that is missing its starting quarterback, two offensive lineman, and its top slot receiver.
It's a mess, and it's not getting any better.
How bad you ask? The Eagles had more sacks (nine) than the Jets had points (six).
Any hope the Jets had to be competitive in this game came and went in the first quarter when the Eagles scored two quick touchdowns to take a 14-0 lead with five minutes to go in the opening stanza.
The first score came on a one-yard plunge by Jordan Howard, completing a 53-yard drive that ate five minutes off the clock. The second score came on a horrible throw by Falk, who tossed the ball right into the hands of linebacker Nathan Gerry, who raced all the way home for a 51-yard touchdown.
The Eagles coasted from there. Philly converted Falk's second interception of the day into more points when Carson Wentz found Zack Ertz from 11-yards out to make it 21-0 before the half.
Finally with Philadelphia up 24-6, Falk was strip-sacked by Orlando Scandrick, who came in on a corner blitz. Falk never saw Sacndrick as he ripped the ball from Falks graph and dashed to the end zone for the games final score.
Falk threw for only 120 yards on the day, and if you include the nine sacks, the Jets threw for only 61-net yards on Sunday. It was a total debacle.
What has to make this worse is the fact that the Jets didn't give Falk the majority of reps during the week when they knew there was a strong chance that Sam Darnold would not play this week. Another costly miscalculation by head coach Adam Gase, who has looked more like quarterback killer than quarterback guru.
Overall the Jets were held to just nine first downs, the third straight game where New York had not recorded more than 10 first downs in a game. New York mustered only 128 yards of offense against an Eagles defense that was considered the worst pass defense in the league coming in to Week 5.
Next up? The Dallas Cowboys. Can you say 0 and 5?
