Mets survive Game 2, Face Elimination Again Tonight

 METS 7 - PADRES 3 

The Mets will live on to see another day of baseball.

Behind six solid innings from ace Jacob deGrom, and an offense that finally woke up from its catatonic state, the Met held off the San Diego Padres 7-3, Saturday night in Game 2 of the NL Wild Card series.

deGrom and the Mets set the tone early. The two-time Cy Young Award winner was hitting 103 mph on the radar gun in the top of the first inning as he overpowered Jurickson Profar, Juan Soto and Manny Machado in the top of the first inning.


Francisco Lindor later gave the Mets a 1-0 lead in the bottom half of the inning.

Later on it was Pete Alonso who put the Mets back in front with a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth as a quick and necessary response to San Diego tying the game at two.

The Mets would never trail again. The bottom of the seventh inning was highlighted by San Diego reliever Adrian Morejon’s inability to get throw strikes, and the Mets increasing patience at the plate as New York plated four runs to put the game away.

Jeff McNeil’s two run double, plated both Lindor and Alonso to make it 5-2. Eduardo Escobar followed with an RBI single, and Daniel Voglebach drove in McNeil on a sac fly to make it 7-2 Amazin’s. All runs scored with only one out.

 Buck Showalter did roll the dice bringing Edwin Diaz in in the seventh inning. The Mets closer was great in 1-2/3 innings of relief, but it got hairy when Adam Ottavino got into big trouble in the ninth inning with a run scored and the bases loaded with two out. Showalter was forced to go to Seth Lugo to close the game out.

It will be fascinating to see how many pitches Diaz and Ottavino will be allowed to throw tonight — if needed. 

Chris Bassitt, who had some polarizing comments on Saturday about playing in New York will get the ball on Sunday night for the Mets. He will go up against Joe Musgrove. First pitch at 7:07.

Is Aaron Glenn in Danger of Getting Fired?

 According to Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio there is a "chance"   that Jets head coach Aaron Glenn could be fired at seasons end.  While Florio doesn't site any sources, the rumor has caught fire the last two days. The question is would it make sense? Let's examine this for a second?  Why it Makes Sense:  Glenn has not been great in his first year as Head Coach of this team. The talent has taken a major step backwards, granted two of those talented players were traded away in Sauce Gardner to Indianapolis and Quinnen Williams to Dallas.  The decision he and GM Darren Mougey made to give Justin Fields a two year deal proved to be a horrible mistake, and Glenn stuck with Fields for far too long before pulling the plug following the Jets loss to the Patriots on a Thursday night in mid November.  Glenn gave now former Defensive Coordinator Steve Wilks too much power to run the defense, and the players couldn't stand Wilks. Same Ol' Jets! Gang Green Dropped by Ravens

 RAVENS 24 - JETS 9  In short the opener to the 2022 season for the New York Jets was a complete and utter disaster.  A team that came into the season with the promise of better days ahead, a team that had taken on so many kudos in the off-season for what so many in the media had claimed was an impeccable off-season and draft, came out flat as a pancake when it mattered the most.  If this was a debut of what is to come for the Jets in 2022, you better start preparing your 2023 draft boards.  Sunday's 24-9 loss wasn't just a defeat at the hands of a better team, it was a total indictment of the Jets current predicament.  The Jets offensive line, which has been battered and beaten this summer with the losses of Meckhi Becton and Duane Brown looked like a sieve on Sunday.
