Let's be honest before anyone sat down to watch the New York Giants take on the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday night, you thought you were in for a major blow out. The Eagles would come out flying, and punch the Giants right in the mouth, and Big Blue would crumple to the floor with a record of 1-5.
Would you expect anything else?
Especially after the Giants blew a 14-3 lead to winless New Orleans last week. WINLESS NEW ORLEANS!!!
Especially with the Jets at 0-5; the Yankees eliminated from the playoffs just the night before, and the Mets, who spent three months spiraling out of control, until a miserable finish three weeks ago.
So when the Giants not just defeated, but pounded the daylights out of the defending Super Bowl Champions 34-17, it changed the game. Suddenly, we have something to latch on to in New York. A young Giants team, led by it's rookie quarterback in Jaxson Dart, and rookie running back in Cam Skattebo.
They are both so young, they don't know what losing is, or the tortured recent history of the New York Giants. They are here to win, and expect to win. And their love of the game and winning is proving infectious.
While Dart's stats (17-of-25, 198 yards passing and a touchdown) don't jump off the page, the fact is he is running the offense with great efficiency. Even when he left the game for concussion protocol (more on that in another story), the offense came to a screeching halt in one drive with Russell Wilson.
If the Giants are to click, Dart is their guy.
Add Skattebo and his ability to blast through people as he did Thursday rushing for 98-yards and three scores, and you got a one-two punch that is taking the G-Men to new heights.
As the Giants started to pour it on with Skattebo's second and third rushing scores of the day to make it 34-17, Giants players were seen cheering on with the fans on the sideline. Dart and Skattebo would run up and down the sideline pumping up their teammates.
Even in the post game, Skattebo took part in a Hulk Hogen-esq shirt rip off with former Jets quarterback-turned Amazon color analyst Ryan Fitzpatrick that livened up the crowd even further.
The Giants might be 2-4, and they might not make the playoffs, but they sure as hell saved their season, and saved football in New York from a dark and gloomy place. Let's see how far they can ride this magic carpet ride in 2025.
