In one of the most bizarre stories of the entire week, former New York Jets quarterback-turned broadcaster, Mark Sanchez was charged with three misdemeanors, and was stabbed and sent to the hospital in the process in Indianapolis on Saturday.
Sanchez was charged with battery with injury, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle and public intoxication, which are all misdemeanors.
He was not booked as of Saturday night. Sanchez was reported in stable condition. Both Sanchez and the unidentified grease truck driver, indentified only as P.T. in an affidavit, obtained injuries.
The news which was first reported by Fox 59/CBS 4 in Indianapolis.
According to reports, Sanchez was at the hospital in stable condition, and arrested for his role in an altercation with a 69-year old grease disposal truck driver outside Lougmiller's Pub & Eatery in downtown Indianapolis.
Reports indicate that Sanchez was behaving erratically, who got into an altercation with the man over what Sanchez complained was the driver blocking a nearby alleyway.
According to the New York Post: "Before the dispute, Sanchez was doing “wind sprints” in the alley behind the bar where he was drinking and “acting erratically,” the station reported, citing sources.
The stabbing occurred shortly after midnight on Saturday in downtown Indianapolis."
The grease disposal truck driver claims he acted in self defense as he admits to pepper spraying the former Jets quarterback. When that didn't work, the unidentified man stabbed Sanchez.
According to the affidavit shared publicly by Fox59/CBS4 reporter Angela Ganote on her X page, Sanchez had "several stab wounds to his upper right torso." The driver only identified as P.T. had a "laceration on his neck."
Police tried to obtain a statement from Sanchez, and the quarterback did not recall what had happened according to the affidavit.
An official statement from Sanchez, his representation, on his side of the story of course is pending.
Sanchez was scheduled to serve as a color commentator for the Colts-Raiders game in Indianapolis on Sunday afternoon. His fellow ex-Jets teammate, and FOX Sports Radio host, Brady Quinn will replace Sanchez on Sunday in the booth with Chris Meyers.
On a side note, credit Fox59/CBS 4 for their relentless efforts to get the story and facts correct. It's good to see journalism alive and well.
