The New York Jets are 0-6, but how they got their on Sunday across the pond in beautiful London, England is another story. Gang Green lost the game they way they have lost their five previous games: poor coaching, worse execution, a quarterback who looks tepid in the pocket, and a Head Coach with no answers.
If that doesn't describe the state of the Jets not just this year, but seemingly every year, I don't know what does. And this was the second straight year that the NFL had sent the Jets overseas to the U.K., and I am sure the fine people of Britain would like the Jets to stay home next time.
The Jets are now 1-3 all time in London, and Sunday's 13-11 loss the Denver Broncos punctuated the current state of the winless guys in Green.
Justin Fields completed just nine passes for a net gain of minus-10 yards!! MINUS-10 YARDS!!!
He was under siege all afternoon, sacked nine times as his proclivity to hold the ball too long persists.
When pressed about changing quarterbacks, Head Coach Aaron Glenn starred down reporters and called the question ridiculous. But is it really?
Fields and the Jet offense has regressed this year. What started out with such promise in Week 1, a 34-32 loss to the Steelers has transformed into an ugly, unmovable object where it appears the players, Offensive Coordinator Tanner Engstrand, and Glenn aren't on the same page.
Take the Jets botched two minute drill as an example. With 1:48 to go before halftime, the Jets trailed 10-6, and had three timeouts in their back pocket. 48 seconds later, they moved exactly two yards, and had only one time out left.
By the time the Jets needed a timeout with 32 seconds to go on a fourth and one, Glenn just let the clock run out while his players stood on the field stunned. Even wide receiver Garrett Wilson ran up to Glenn to find out what he was thinking.
It's moments like this that not only lose ballgames, but worse, lose players.
If Aaron Glenn continues to manage games with his hair on fire, and act like he's the smartest man in the room, his tenure will not last much longer. And keep in mind this is the same team that fired Robert Saleh exactly one year ago at this same venue, when the Jets lost a more competitive game to the Vikings 23-20 to drop to 2-3. That team had Aaron Rodgers. This team has Justin Fields.
Saleh should have been given a chance to finish the season. Glenn will most likely get that chance, but if the Jets sit here in January at 1-16 or 2-15, or dare I say 0-17. Things are going to need to change.
