In case you busy catching some Z's on Sunday afternoon, the New York Jets suffered their seventh straight defeat, this time in dismal fashion, 13-6 to the Carolina Panthers at MetLife Stadium.
If you were hoping for things to change from last weeks dismal 13-11 loss to Denver, it didn't. The Jets continue to play like a team asleep at the wheel, and Aaron Glenn continues to struggle with decision making, roster moves, and just about anything when it comes to coaching this franchise.
On the games opening drive, Glenn had his Jets go for it on fourth and five at the Carolina 33-yard line, instead of kicking a makable 51-yard field goal. The Jets of course blew that fourth down play as Justin Fields' pass was wide of its intended target.
And like last week, whether it was the fact that the Jets were short-handed offensively or not, Glenn's offense again failed to do anything in the two minute drill as the clock expired with New York down 10-3. There was no sense of urgency. No sense of the moment. No sense at all.
The only thing that did make some sense was the benching of Justin Fields who once again looked lost out there. He completed six of 12 passes for 46 yards, and was sacked three times.
It didn't get any better with Tyrod Taylor who proved to be inaccurate, as was picked off twice by Carolina's Jayce Horn.
You wanna say the Jets defense played well? Ok, that's fine, but bear in mind they were facing the Panther and quarterback Bryce Young, who like Fields' hasn't exactly transitioned well to the NFL game at all. The Panthers offense is equally terrible. So it was hard to gauge whether the Jets defense was really that good on Sunday, or if the Panthers were that bad.
Once the clock hit triple zero, the Jets fell to 0-7 for the third time to open a season. The last two times they opened 0-7 was 1996 when the Jets finished 1-15, and 2020 when the Jets finished 2-14. This season figures to be even more dismal and dire than even those years. What a mess.
