One team that was curiously absent from all the hubbub of the NFL trade deadline was the New York Giants.
At 2-7, the Giants are going nowhere as the season has spiraled out of control in the last three weeks. New York has seen valuable pieces like Malik Nabers and Cam Skatebo go down with season ending injuries, and they have also seen rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart throw his body around to the point he had to crouch down on the ground in pain on the sideline during a 34-24 drubbing to the 49ers on Sunday.
Not to mention the Giants lauded defense has given up 30-plus point in each of the last three games, all loses. So what is going on here?
The Giants didn't get any help for their rookie quarterback who needs it.
As it stands now, the Giants have only one first round and one second round pick going into next year's draft, meaning they will either have to get creative in trades this off-season, or get aggressive in free agency.
Is the Giants inactivity a sign that GM Joe Schoen and Head Coach Brian Daboll both know they are in trouble?
Remember the Giants didn't make any real significant moves last year either at the deadline, and still managed to move capital around to get Dart in the first round this past spring. Anything is possible.
Let's not write off Schoen and Daboll returning in 2026 just yet.
Yes, the Giants schedule the next month is a gauntlet, but the last four weeks (Washington on December 14, Minnesota on December 21, at Las Vegas on December 28, and Dallas on January 3) are all winnable games. Perhaps the Giants finish strong this year, and everyone still comes back in 2026?
But it is surprising that the Giants could make any moves even as sellers to better position themselves moving forward. This is a situation to keep an eye on.
