Breece Hall waited a long time for this day.
The Jets running back who had been pinning for a contract extension for a couple of years now finally got his wish on Friday afternoon when the New York Jets agreed to terms with Hall's representatives on a new three-year, $45.75 million deal.
The deal will make Hall the third highest paid running back in the NFL in Average Annual Salary (AAV) at $15.25 million. Only Saquon Barkley and Christian McCaffery make more with the Eagles and 49ers respectively.
This is a huge get for the Jets. They get to keep one of its most productive players over the past four seasons for the long term, all while ending ongoing speculation that a trade would be in the offing.
Hall has been the Jets bell-cow the past four years, averaging 978 yards rushing. In some respects he was both underutilized and underappreciated these past few seasons. He has the talent to be a top flight back in this league. Last season, Hall ran for 1,065 yards and four touchdowns. It was the first time in his professional career that Hall has rushed for over a thousand yards.
He has also averaged 56 receptions out of the backfield the past three seasons, proving to be steady hands all the way around.
Drafted in the second round of the 2022 draft out of Iowa State, Hall burst onto the scene that year, rushing for 463 yards on just 80 attempts, an average of 5.79 yards per carry. He took over the starting job from incumbent Michael Carter that year and never looked back.
Hall along with wide receiver Garret Wilson are the only remaining players from that stacked 2022 draft class of former GM Joe Douglas. Alijah Vera-Tucker is now in New England; Jermaine Johnson is now in Tennessee, and Sauce Gardner is now in Indianapolis.
