The New York Jets will indeed open the 2026 season at Tennessee where they will square-off with their former coach, Robert Saleh in his Titans Head Coaching debut.
Many anticipated that the Jets could open the season in Tennessee for this very story-line. It was the most obvious choice, despite rumors via ESPN N.Y. and the Daily News' Gary Myers that the Jets might open in Miami. That proved false.
While a lot of focus will be on the wits of Saleh against current Jets Head Coach Aaron Glenn, the real story will be about Saleh going up against the team, and more specifically, the front office that fired him following a Week 5 loss to the Minnesota Vikings in London two seasons ago.
The Jets were 2-3 at the time, and had just lost a heart-breaker 23-17 to the Vikings where New York had a chance to win late. Then Jets owner Woody Johnson, the former Ambassador to the U.K., perhaps feeling embarrassed by the showing, fired Saleh by the time the Jets arrived home on Monday.
That firing triggered an series of articles via the Athletic that chronicled the decay of the Jets from within with Saleh and then General Manager Joe Douglas butting heads with ownership, to quarterback Aaron Rodgers' run-ins with Johnson as well.
The season spiraled out of control, and the Jets finished 5-12 under interim Head Coach Jeff Ulbrich.
Saleh returned to San Francisco last season where he rebuilt his image as a defensive coordinator leading to his landing the Titans job. As for Saleh's successor, Aaron Glenn, he suffered through a miserable 3-14 season in 2025 with many in the fan-base calling for his ouster.
Glenn is getting a second chance. The Jets had a good off-season, and fans and media alike seem to be in love with the moves second year General Manager Darren Mougey has made thus far. We'll see if it translates.
As for the rest of the Jets schedule, the Jets home opener will be Week 2 against the Green Bay Packers at 1 p.m. on Fox. Talk about a rough open to the home slate. Expect a ton of Packers fans in the building. The Jets travel to the Windy City to see Caleb Williams and the Bears, a game that will be a true test for this Jets revamped defense.
The Browns come to the Meadowlands in Week 5.
The Jets will host the Dolphins and Las Vegas Raiders in back-to-back weeks in Weeks 7 and 8. And will host the Buffalo Bills in Week 10.
The Denver Broncos come to town in Week 14. The Jets spend Christmas week at home in Week 16 against the Patriots; ring in the New Year at MetLife Stadium with the Vikings in Week 17, and wrap up the season on the road, most likely in Miami.
Weeks 3, 6, 9, 11, 12, 13, 15, and 18 are not confirmed as of 12:45 p.m. ET.
