The New York Knicks are now one win away from the franchise's first trip to the NBA Finals in 27 years.
Led by another outstanding offensive performance from Jalen Brunson and Mikal Bridges, the Knicks pounded the Cleveland Cavaliers 121-108 in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Finals.
The Knicks never trailed in the contest as Cleveland had literally no answer to stop the Knicks on the offensive boards. The Knicks did whatever they wanted to. From screens, to post-ups and open shots without any defensive pressure.
Hit the open man in the lane? Check.
Kick the ball out to an open man in the corner to hit a three? Check.
Drive through the lane with numbers? Check again.
It was a clinic by New York.
By the end of the contest it looked like Cleveland had totally given up as Brunson glided to the hoop uncontested for an easy layup that gave New York a 118-102 lead with 1:49 to play.As the Cavs limped and staggered on the court, the chants of "Lets Go Knicks!" only grew louder and louder and louder!
Perhaps the icing on the cake came early fourth quarter when Landry Shamet converted on three consecutive three pointers that turned a 10-points Knicks lead at 96-86 into a 105-91 advantage with 7:14 to go.
At this point, the party had kicked into high gear.
Shamet finished the night with 14 points in 28 minutes of the bench. Brunson led the way with 30 points on 10-of-19 shooting, including 10-of-12 from the free throw line.
Mikal Bridges was an unstoppable 11-of-15 from the floor with 22 points, and OG Anunoby chipped in 22 points on 6-of-10 shooting, including a perfect 6-for-6 from the charity stripe.
It was an unstoppable night for New York as the Knicks are now just one win away form the Finals. Their record setting postseason run has New York riding a 10-game winning streak. A win Monday would not only lock up the East, but would capture a second consecutive sweep in these playoffs.
Can the Knicks keep this going against the best from the West? That is going to be the question moving forward. The Thunder and Spurs both present a huge match-up problem for the Knicks, namely via the fact that both OKC and San Antonio have a huge size advantage. The Thunder are also reigning NBA champions, and owners of the best record in the NBA with 64 wins. The Spurs are right behind them at 62 wins.
It will be a tall order, but this Knicks team has defied a lot of odds to get here. Their fans are soaking it all in, so why not dream? It has been so many years of misery for Knicks fans, three decades now of broken promises and broken dreams. For once Knicks fans can wake up, enjoy a great team, a future Hall of Famer in Brunson, and bask in the glory of what could be...
