Mets Fire Sale Begins, Trade Minter to Twins, Could Move Peralta Next

 The New York Mets are open for business! 

And about time too. The Mets traded reliever A.J. Minter to the Minnesota Twins for two minor league prospects, highlighted by infielder Bruin Agbayani. 

Minter was one of the few effective pitchers coming out of the Mets bullpen, despite his litany of injuries during his two year stint in New York. In 23 innings this season, Minter went 1-1 with a 2.35 ERA. He gives the Twins an added boost as they try to make a case in the cluttered AL Central and wild card. 


In return the Mets get two prospects: Billy Amick and Agbayani. Agbayani is the son of former Met Benny Agbayani, which is going to excite a lot of fans, since Benny was a very popular player in New York from 1999 - 2001. 


Bruin is only 19 and is only just getting started in his minor league career. His starts are limited at this point. He is left-handed hitter who plays infield. 

As for Amick, he was a top five pick out of Tennessee, but has issues making consistent contact, hence his .217 average. 

Meanwhile, rumors are swirling that the Mets took Francisco Lindor off the market for now. It was believed that Lindor could have been the big piece to move this deadline season, but it appears it won't be the case. 

Lindor has been hurt for much of the year with a calf injury. While he has struggled this season both at the plate (.227/.314/.409) and in the field (six errors). While he's starting to get hot at the dish, and would fetch a haul, he has five years left on his contract and will be 33 next season. That and he has a no-trade clause. 

While David Stearns may want to move him and find a partner to take the heat off the salary cap, he might have to wait until the off-season to move him. 

Finally,  it appears that Freddy Peralta's stay in New York is just about over. He was scheduled to start for the Mets tonight against Miami, but was scratched. Word is the Mets tried to make something happen with the Chicago White Sox, but are also filtering through offers from other teams. 

Should a deal with the White Sox develops the Mets could be looking at acquiring two Top-15 prospects in outfielders George Wolkow (11th overall in Sox system) and Boston Smith (15th overall), among others. 

Peralta has been a bust this year. He's 5-9 with a 4.99 ERA in 22 starts with the Mets this season. He was in the walk year of his deal with the Brewers. The Mets acquired him along with reliever Tobias Meyers during the winter with the hope Peralta would become the staff ace. That never happened.  Now he's on the way out.

Is Aaron Glenn in Danger of Getting Fired?

 According to Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio there is a "chance"   that Jets head coach Aaron Glenn could be fired at seasons end.  While Florio doesn't site any sources, the rumor has caught fire the last two days. The question is would it make sense? Let's examine this for a second?  Why it Makes Sense:  Glenn has not been great in his first year as Head Coach of this team. The talent has taken a major step backwards, granted two of those talented players were traded away in Sauce Gardner to Indianapolis and Quinnen Williams to Dallas.  The decision he and GM Darren Mougey made to give Justin Fields a two year deal proved to be a horrible mistake, and Glenn stuck with Fields for far too long before pulling the plug following the Jets loss to the Patriots on a Thursday night in mid November.  Glenn gave now former Defensive Coordinator Steve Wilks too much power to run the defense, and the players couldn't stand Wilks. Same Ol' Jets! Gang Green Dropped by Ravens

 RAVENS 24 - JETS 9  In short the opener to the 2022 season for the New York Jets was a complete and utter disaster.  A team that came into the season with the promise of better days ahead, a team that had taken on so many kudos in the off-season for what so many in the media had claimed was an impeccable off-season and draft, came out flat as a pancake when it mattered the most.  If this was a debut of what is to come for the Jets in 2022, you better start preparing your 2023 draft boards.  Sunday's 24-9 loss wasn't just a defeat at the hands of a better team, it was a total indictment of the Jets current predicament.  The Jets offensive line, which has been battered and beaten this summer with the losses of Meckhi Becton and Duane Brown looked like a sieve on Sunday.
