Jets Get their Kicker in Ex-Colt Blake Grupe

 It became pretty apparent in the Jets 23-6 preseason finale loss to the New York Giants that they need to address the kicking position, especially after incumbent Jason Sanders missed an extra point and a field goal. 

A day after the 53-man roster was finalized, the Jets acquired Blake Grupe on waivers from the Indianapolis Colts. Sanders has since been released. 

This is a huge addition obviously. Over his career Grupe is 96-of-98 on extra points, and 86-of-105 (82%) on field goals. That's as good as it gets for a player who was perfect from both field goal distance (11-for-11) and extra points (10-of-10) last year for a Colts team that cut him at the end of camp this summer. 

Grupe began his career with the New Orleans Saints, and let's be fair, he did struggle last season before a October trade. He was 18-of-26 on field goals last year for the Saints, who play their home games in a dome. 

At the very least, the Jets have answered their kicker questions for the interim. 

MEANWHILE, a lot was made following Friday's game about the Jets back-up quarterback situation. Cade Klubnik will be Gang Green's backup despite two mediocre efforts in preseason. Bailey Zappe who didn't exactly distinguish himself in preseason will be the emergency non-roster quarterback. Zappe is on the practice squad.

Same Ol' Jets! Gang Green Dropped by Ravens

Jets, Dolphins and Patriots Playoff Breakdown

Here are the formuli that could get the Jets into and out of the playoff party this season: 1) If the Jets win against Seattle and Miami, they win the AFC East based on a better conference record (8-4) than the New England Patriots, even if New England wins out as well. 2) If the Patriots win out and the Dolphins win out and finish at 11-5, the Jets would be 10-6, or 9-7, and probably out of the playoffs. Both New England and Miami would make the playoffs, with the Dolphins as a divison winner and the Patriots as a wild card. The Patriots make the postseason if Baltimore loses one of its final two games. 3) If the Patriots win out and the Dolphins and Jets split, then the Patriots win the AFC East.
