All Star Voting is Nearing End

The online voting for the 2008 All Star Game in New York is almost over and it appears there will be some interesting races and plenty of snubs to go around.
In the AL, Dustin Pedroia of the Red Sox is beating out Texas' Ian Kinsler for the second base spot. This is not right considering that Kinsler is having a better year. Also Joe Mauer of the Twins is beating out Boston's Jason Varitek for the catching position.

With little surprise, Derek Jeter and A-Rod are leading at their positions, representing the Yankees.

In the outfield Josh Hamilton of Texas appears to be heading to the game. He deserves it, considering he is hitting .321 with 19 homers and 80 RBI. However, Ichiro Suzuki of Seattle does not desrve to start. The Mariners are a terrible team, and Ichiro is having his worst season. Yet, Ichiro is third in the outfield balloting. If there was justice, Tampa Bay's Carl Crawford, or B.J. Upton would get the start over Ichiro.

In the NL, Lance Berkman of Houston is blowing away Albert Pujols of St. Louis for first base, and deservingly so since Pujols has spent time on the DL this year.

Even though Phillies second baseman Chase Utley is having a big year, it is not fair to see Florida's Dan Uggla third in voting for second base. The guy has led the league in homeruns for most of the season, and is putting up MVP numbers as well.

Thankfully, Hanley Ramirez of Florida appears to be the starting short stop, and not Miguel Tejada of Houston or Jose Reyes of the Mets.

Finally the Cubs will be well represented with Giovani Soto leading catchers, and rookie Kosuke Fukadome third in voting for outfielders.
