Tampa Bay just keeps finding ways to win. On Tuesday, the Rays beat the Red Sox for the second straight night, with timely hitting and strong defense.
Boston could not take advantage of its own oportunities, leaving 13 men on base on the night.
With the Rays already up 2-1 the Red Sox had a threat going with with two on and two out in the seventh. Alex Cora shot a lazor to third that was snabbed by third baseman Evan Longoria to save the inning for the Rays.
In the eighth, the Red Sox had the bases loaded for Mike Lowell, but Lowell grounded out to short to end the threat, and basically the game.
Matt Garza got the victory going seven strong innings, giving up an unearned run in that span. Grant Balfour pitched an inning and a third in relief to get the save for the resting Troy Percival.
Tampa catcher Dioner Navarro's RBI single in the eighth to bring home Carlos Pena was the final nail in the coughin for Tampa, who now extends their lead to 2.5 games over Boston. BOXSCORE.
