RED SOX 6
YANKEES 4
There were certainitly fireworks at Yankee Stadium. Last night, Joe Girardi got into a screaming match with the Post's Joel Sherman about a closed door meeting with his ball club, and Johnny Damon said that the team is an "embarrassment." Add to that another crippling loss and you have a Fourth of July Massacre!!!
The Red Sox came back from a 3-0 deficit, Friday afternoon, to beat up the Yankees 6-4 at the Stadium.
With the Yankees up 3-1 in the third, Kevin Youklis lifted a ball to deep left. Johnny Damon played it well, leaping to rob his ex-teammate of a homerun, but he never had the ball! Damon fell to ground with nothing in his glove; the ball stayed on top of the wall for about a second, and fell back into play. Both runners who were on base came into score and the Red Sox tied the game.
Later in the fifth, Mike Lowell lifted a three run homer to left center to give Boston a 6-3 lead.
The Yankees tried to rally in the seventh, loading the bases against Hiedeki Okaijima, but Manny Delcarmen came in and got the nessecary outs to get out of the jam. In the ninth, the Yankees were able to get to Johnathon Papelbon, as Derek Jeter drove in rookie Brett Gardner.
Still, Papelbon found his way through getting Bobby Abreu to fly out to Coco Crisp in right field. BOXSCORE with VIDEOS!!!
