METS 2
PHILLIES 2
Carlos Beltran and Oliver Perez led the way for the Mets, in a rain extended, ball game on Sunday afternoon and early evening.
Beltran drove in both Met runs; first he hit a line drive homer that just cleared the out of town scoreboard in right field. The homerun was Beltran's 13th of the year.
After that the Mets did little else offensivly, as Kyle Kendrick baffeled the Mets for six innings, scattering eights hits and a run. He got the lose.
Oliver Perez, however, was much better. Perez who shut down the Yankees last Sunday, was even better against the Phillies. He was dominant going seven strong innings, surrendering only four hits, while striking out six. Of the big four for Philadelphia; Jimy Rollins, Pat Burrel and Ryan Howard only had singles. Chase Utley, who is the NL second baseman, went 0 for 4.
The rains then came, and came heavy, delaying the game for two hours and fifty minutes. The game didn't resume until 7:10 in the evening. In case your wondering the game started at 1:35.
When they resumed play, Pedro Feliciano got Ryan Howard to strike out swinging with two on. Aaron Heilman then came in, and walked Burrell, but got Pedro Feliez to ground a drippler back to him for the out.
In the top of the ninth, the Mets got to Brad Lidge, who signed a major contract extension with the Phillies before the game. Jose Reyes led off with a single to right, and stole second. Then Endy Chavez dragged a beautiful bunt toward Utley at second, moving Reyes to third. David Wright struck out, but Beltran capped his 3 for 5 day with his second RBI of the day.
However, in the bottom of the inning, Billy Wagner came into his old stomping grounds, and surrendered a single to Shane Victorino, and a two run homerun to Jayson Werth, as the Fighten Phillies have tied the game at two. We are now in extra innings...update later.
