Giants' Jacobs Should Mind His Own Business

Just when you thought the New York Giants were done throwing controversial remarks out to the media comes an explosion out of the trap of running back Brandon Jacobs.

Jacobs instead of spending time worrying about how his team will defend their world championship decided it was best to use his time to criticize the cross-town New York Jets for bringing in Brett Favre as their new starting quarterback.

"I just don't think (Favre) leaving the Packers and going to the Jets was a great thing because you never know with (the Jets)." Jacobs told the Post on Saturday.

"Not saying he's going to something bad...but I think he had a pretty good thing with the Packers" (Schwartz NYP).

Antonio Pierce, who is never short of making stupid statements himself, added about the media attention that the Jets are getting, "That's good for them, now they got expectations, so that's probably less media in our locker room and that's probably better for us."

These quotes are totally stupid; what are the Giants doing worrying about what the Jets do in order to improve their team? For Pierce and Jacobs to criticize the Jets and Brett Favre as a way to prove that the Giants are somehow 'underdogs' in their city is a total joke. No one will ever take away what the Giants did last year in winning the Super Bowl. What they did last winter was beyond remarkable, it was great.

Plus, I don't think you need much in the way of extra motivation to win another Super Bowl, after winning one the previous year. If the Giants do they are in big trouble, because it signifies that they are not focused on the primary goal.

The Giants should keep their mouths shut and focus on their own problems and concerns for the 2008 season, they should not even care about the Jets. In fact the Jets should not even be a discussion for the Giants, week one and the Redskins should be! Last time I checked the Jets are not on the Giants regular season schedule; logic would tell you that means the Jets should be far from the mind of the Giants.

Maybe someone should tell the Giants' players that they have to stop looking for outside excuses in order to prove their greatness, because if the Giants find a way to fail to repeat as World Champions, no one will remember or care about what they did last year. Worry about yourselves G-Men and not about teams that you don't even play.
