Brady Out For The Season

Oh, how the mighty have fallen! In a story that has been published by the Sporting News a report they picked up from NBC's Peter King and Yahoo Sports, annouced that Patriots quarterback and MVP Tom Brady is expected to miss the rest of the season thanks to a severe injury to his left knee.

The injury is a torn anterior Cruciate ligament in the knee that will cost Brady several months of rehab. Read Michael Silver from Yahoo Sports.

Brady was injured when Kansas City saftey Bernard Pollard rolled up on Brady's leg, bendng back the knee and ripping the ligament to pieces.

Unlike San Diego Charger linebacker Shawn Merriman who is stupidly playing on a knee with two torn ligaments, the Patriots will not put Brady on the field to further risk the quaterback's career.

Even though the Patriots future in 2009 or 2010 looks ok, 2008 is O-V-E-R! OVER! OVER! OVER!!!!!!! The Patriots were hoping to march back to the Super Bowl this year after they were 18-0, on the doorstep of history until the New York Giants shut the door on them in the Super Bowl.

Now they will have to do it with Matt Cassell who has never started a game in his life. But this is familiar territory for the Belicheats. Eight years ago a man named Drew Beldsoe was KO'd by Jets lineback Mo Lewis and in came some kid who never started a game named Tom Brady. Three Super Bowl titles and four Super Bowl appearances later, as Paul Harvey says, now you know the rest of the story.

On paper it may seem like a difficult task for Cassell to come in and take the reigns from Brady and lead this team to the Super Bowl. In fact it may be impossible, but there is just too much talent on this team for them not to be at least competitive in the AFC East.

This opens a huge door for the Jets and Buffalo Bills, both of whom were considered teams that would have decent seasons, perhaps nine to ten wins for both. However, after this injury both teams must be foaming at the mouth at the prospects of winning this division and getting a high playoff seed.

The marathon will really get going next week when the Jets welcome the Patriots in for a Sunday evening date at the Meadowlands. The Jets will have Brett Favre and the Patriots will be looking for answers from the gods of football. My have the table's have turned in that great rivalry.
