Jets Beat Bills For Biggest Win of Season

JETS 26
BILLS 17

If you believe in turning points, this might be the game. The Jets not only beat the Buffalo Bills, they might have turned their season around. Throughout the week, the talk was, "What is wrong with Brett and the Jets?" Now the talk will be, "Hey, the Jets have a chance to get into the postseason!"

It wasn't pretty, but it never is up in Buffalo. The Jets capitalized off Bill turnovers and the loss of Bills DE Aaron Shobel to corral Buffalo, Sunday. The Jets took the opening drive right down the field as Brett Favre hit Leon Washington on a bubble screen that turned into a 40 yard sprint. The Jets settled for the field goal for the 3-0 lead.

The Bills responded. Trent Edwards hit Marshawn Lynch on a similar screen play, and Lynch went untouched for 42 yards to the Jets 15 yard line. Three plays later, Edwards hit a wide open Derek Fine for the touchdown, 7-3 Buffalo.

The Jets defense was shaky at times today. The Bills ate huge amounts of yards through the air, and Edwards had a lot of time to throw. The only man to give Edwards trouble was Jets DT Kris Jenkins who harassed the quaterback at key moments in the game. On a 3rd and 14 at the Jets 14, Jenkins got right in the face of Edwards. Edwards unwisely heaved up the ball, and it was picked off by Abram Elam, who went 92 yards for the Jets touchdown. 13-7 N.Y.

Late in the third, the Jets put together a key drive when Favre hit Thomas Jones for a 14 yard gain on 2nd and 6. Later, Favre hit Jerricho Cothery for 38 yards to put the ball at the Bills seven yard line. Finally Jones, sprinted right through the Bills defensive line for the touchdown. 23-10 New York. BOXSCORE.

The Bills, got back into the game when Favre threw an interception that was returned for a touchdown, but that was as close as Buffalo would get. After getting the ball back, Favre and the Jets moved the ball on a game ending 16 play 8:35 drive that ended with a Jay Feeley field goal to give New York a nine point lead. Jones was the key on the drive as he had a nice 23 yard gain to put the ball at the Bill 32 with 3:30 to play to pretty much put the Jets in position to ice the game.

The game finally ended with a Darrell Revis intercepion, as Edwards tried to find Lee Evans in the corner of the end zone on a 2nd and five at the Jets 25. It was Revis' second game winning interception this season.

The Jets are 5-3 and are in great position to take first place in the AFC East if the Patriots lose tonight to the Colts.
