Early in the season, there were rumors that the NFL would like to expand the regular season from the current 16 game format to 18 games. This would eliminate two meaningless pre-season games, cutting the practice games in half.
Well in an article from Yahoo.com, that was orignially reported by the New York Daily News, the only stop gap standing in the way is the NFL Players Assoiciation. The players want to make sure that their salories will not suffer a hit if the pre-season is basically cancelled in favor of a longer season.
Commisoner Roger Goodell confrimed in the story that the players will still get their money, which is 60 % of overall revenue that is earned during the games.
The move would be fantastic. The season is just too short and it goes too fast. It seems that once week one arrives and a long season is about to begin, week 10 is suddenly upon us and the season is basically over. Adding two more weeks to the regular season would push meaningful football into January, and could make playoff races that much more interesting.
