Burress's Giant Career Nearing Final Chapter

The Giant mess that has become the life and times of Plaxico Burress took another strange turn today. The Giant wide receiver was placed on the reserve/non-football injury list today by the franchise, meaning that he is done for the season, suspended for conduct detrimental to the team for the rest of the season. His pay will be docked as well, in short, Burress will not see a cent.

Keep in mind, money and contracts are not guaranteed in the NFL as they are in Major Leauge Baseball, National Basketball Association and National Hockey Leauge. So, Burress will likey not see any of that $35 million dollar contract that he was scheduled to receive for performance over the next five years.

It is not known whether the team will keep Burress beyond 2008. If they release him now, the Giants will suffer only a $4 million salary cap hit, compared to $8 million cap hit if he is listed on the roster in 2009 and then released.

Expect Burress to get his outright release from the team in the coming days. Also, there is still no idea what will happen to linebacker Antonio Pierce, who was involved in hideing the gun Burress had, and tried to consipire with the hospital to keep the situation hush, hush.
