Coles Reveals Hatred For Brett Favre

Things are not going so well in Jetland lately. First, the team blew its chances at a high playoff seed with a loss to Denver a week ago; then Shaun Ellis was caught with possession of dope in his car on the way to camp, and now Laveranues Coles is ripping Brett Favre in the media.

You think this team is falling apart?

Coles told San Francisco reporters, "We're in a quarterback-driven offense where he pretty much has control of everything, where before the offense was pretty much driven through me ... I just kind of become a role player instead of a guy that teams had to prepare for." (qtd. by Chris Chase).

Coles continued with his diatribe: "I catch balls from the Jugs machine. The ball probably comes out harder from there than it does from anywhere else."

In short, Coles has no respect for Favre. He hated the fact that the team released Chad Pennington in favor of Favre. It is hard to imagine why Coles feels this way. He has caught more touchdown passes this year then he has in any single season with the Jets. With Pennington, Coles had to make acrobatic catches, just to make up for Pennington deficiencies. In fact, last year in a game against the Bills, Pennington almost got Coles killed when he forced the receiver to jump for the ball in double coverage. Coles was sandwiched between two defenders and had to leave the game with a concussion.

Maybe, Laveranues likes getting concussions.
With Favre at quarterback, Coles has had a chance to really show what kind of receiver he can be. A guy that can stretch the field, but, apparently, that is not good enough. It's funny because, at several moments this season, Coles has dropped many of Favre's easy passes. Think there isn't any intent there? We shall see today against the 49ers.
