After a week of slamming Plaxico Burress for shooting himself in the leg, it seemed that Shaun Ellis might get away with one; however, the longest tenured Jets defensive end was caught with a car full of dope when he was pulled over last Saturday in Florham Park, N.J. It's amazing that the story did not get out until today, almost a week later.
Ellis was speeding down Rt. 287 and turned into the Florham Park exit; he was being chased by policemen, according to a story in the New York Times. "The police allegedly found marijuana and charged Ellis with drug possession and possession of drug paraphernalia, while issuing summonses for the insurance charge, failure to keep right, speeding and failure to produce a valid registration card"(Bishop, NYT 12/4/08).
The Jets are not planning any disciplinary actions as far as we know. Ellis is expected to play Sunday when the floundering Gang Green football team flies to San Francisco to play the 49ers. There is also no word as to what action the NFL will take either. If the Jets were as smart as the Giants, they would put Ellis out of his misery and bench him for the season and make plans to release him. Even though Ellis leads the team in sacks this year, he has disappeared in recent weeks as far as his impact is concerned. Maybe he took one too many snorts in recent weeks!
