As seen on Mets Amazin Clubhouse.  Matt Harvey's career with the Mets is likely over.  The Mets designated Harvey for assignment after he refused to accept a demotion to the minor leagues to work on his mechanical issues. General Manager Sandy Alderson made the announcement on Friday as the Mets prepare to face the Colorado Rockies tonight at Citi Field for the first of a three-game series.  The Mets will now have 10 days to place Harvey on waivers and trade him, or outright release him from his contract, making him a free agent.  According to the rules of a designation for assignment, the parent club (in this case the Mets) could return Harvey to the 40-man roster within 10 days, but, at this point that seems highly unlikely.  A divorce between the Mets and Harvey was coming, it was only a question of when.  The last straw for the Mets can Thursday when Harvey came in relief of starting pitcher Jason Vargas, and was lit up by the Atlanta ...

YANKEES 6, ASTROS 5 Two weeks ago the Yankees were 9-9. Nobody was doing anything right. In the eyes of Yankee fans, Aaron Boone was a fool; Giancarlo Stanton was a waste; the team was falling apart. Since that time, the Yankees are 12-1 in their last 13 games, and find themselves at 21-10, just 1.5 games out of first place in the AL East. Two weeks ago they were seven back. That is why you can never count out any team, especially one as talented as the Yankees. Thanks to rookie Gleyber Torres, the Yankees defeated the defending Champion Houston Astros 6-5, taking three of four and sending a huge message to the rest of baseball: The Yankees are coming. It wasn't easy on Thursday. The Yankees built an early 3-0 lead only to watch Mashairo Tanaka and the bullpen blow it in the seventh inning as Houston plated five runs in the frame to take a 5-3 lead. The pieces are falling into place for the Jets quarterback situation in 2018. After the club drafted Sam Darnold in the first round last week, the club released back-up quarterback Bryce Petty. Petty, a fourth round pick of Mike Maccagnan back in 2015 never developed into a promising starting quarterback, when given the chance. He was 1-6 as a starter in seven games. His best opportunity to start came in the 2016 season, when he started four games down the stretch and won a game against the 49ers.  Still though he was betrayed by a horrible offensive line, and numerous injuries. His inability to develop was partly the reason why the Jets invested a second round pick on Penn State quarterback Christian Hackenberg in 2016, but as we all know, Hackenberg turned into a bust himself and never played in a game. The Mets missed a major bullet Thursday morning when an MRI on Jacob deGrom's right elbow came back negative. There is no structural damage. deGrom suffered a hyperextended elbow after swinging at strike three on a pitch in the bottom of the third inning of Wednesday night's loss to the Atlanta Braves. Oddly enough deGrom returned to pitch the top of the fourth, allowing only a base hit before exiting with four shutout innings. The hope now is that deGrom will be ok to make he next scheduled start on Monday against the Cincinnati Reds. Manager Mickey Callaway said deGrom will be monitored throughout the weekend to make sure there is no setback. The Mets need deGrom back on the hill. The pitching staff is asunder right now as the Mets have stumbled out of the gate here in the month of May. Jason Vargas has been downright awful, Matt Harvey is no longer a starter, and Zach Wheeler, Steven Matz and Noah Syndergaard have struggled to provide length this year. It has been a me...

It's just two games into the month of May and the New York Mets are quickly sliding down the standings into a nightmarish reality check.  The latest line of bad news for the Mets revolves around the health of their ace Jacob deGrom.  DeGrom left Tuesday's 7-0 loss to the Atlanta Braves after the top of the fourth inning with a hyperextended right elbow. The belief is that deGrom injured the elbow when he struck out swinging in his own at bat during the bottom of the third inning, as he grimaced in pain.  Still, deGrom returned to pitch the fourth inning, allowing only a Nick Markakis single before running down the tunnel, never be seen from again for the rest of the night.  deGrom's final line: four innings of two-hit baseball, while striking out six. As he has been all season, deGrom was fantastic.  Of course panic is setting it. Social media is on fire, and nobody knows for sure how extensive the injury  is.  Already The New York P...

Robby Anderson's days as a Jet need to be numbered. An arrest warrant was issued for Anderson who was a no-show for a morning arraignment for the reckless driving charge from January.  It was during that infamous day that Anderson was pulled over for driving at 105 miles per hour in a 45 mph zone in Broward County, Florida. Anderson was initially hit with nine charges and two felonies that included avoiding police and threatening a police officer by suggesting he'd attack his wife.  The felony charge was dropped on April 3.  There is no word at this time what additional charges Anderson could face from the arrest warrant.  Keep in mind Anderson is no stranger to controversy. He was arrested last May for resisting arrest violently at a Music Festival in Miami.  With all the trouble this guy has been in, the Jets need to do the reasonable thing and cut him. Not only has Harvey lost his spot in the starting rotation, his public image continues to take major hits. The latest public relations faux pas involves a   Page Six   story where Harvey was reportedly living up the nightlife in Los Angeles, and was seen “stumbling around” the night before the Mets were to open up a three-game series in San Diego against the Padres last Friday. For the record, Harvey pitched the ninth inning of that game on Friday and served up a home run to Franchy Cordero. While he did get through the inning, Harvey threw 20 pitches and just didn’t have any command of his fastball which topped at 92 mph. Harvey’s struggles were so obvious on Friday that SNY Play-by-Play man Gary Cohen remarked how bad Harvey’s fastball looked. Now the chickens are coming home to roost.
