Tannenbaum Mum on Favre Deal

Mike Tannenbaum had to bite his tounge and played the party line in a rather uncomfortable interview with Mike Francesa on the "Mike and the Mad Dog" show on WFAN at 6:06 pm ET.

Francesa asked Tannenbaum if he had successfully signed all of his rookies to contracts, in which Tannenbaum gave two answers that there were some players who haven't signed, and later backtracked that everyone was in camp and accounted for.

Francesa soon got to the meat - Brett Favre.

Tannebaum refused to say that the Jets were talking to the Packers and Favre, saying that they "have had numerous discussions with every team about trades," but "they were private discussions" meaning they do their typical trade talk with all teams as a standard proceedure.

Tannebaum said that he and coach Eric Mangini usually talk about different players at every position everyday, but they are "private conversations."

Tannenbaum also talked to quaterbacks Chad Pennington and Kellen Clemens, but did not reveal what the discussions were about.

Francesa asked if talking about Favre to Tannenbaum, would get the Jets in trouble with tampering charges, something the Vikings are already guilty of, and Tannebaum said maybe, and tried to change the subject.

Finally, Francesa asked if anyone is wearing number 4 on the team now, with a hearty laugh. Tannenbaum seemed to gag at the question, and said that rookie punter Joe Smith is wearing it and hung up quickly.
