Tatis & Mets Sweep Giants

METS 7
GIANTS 3

Once again Fernando Tatis was there to save the Mets from the prospects of an embarassing loss. In the bottom of the seventh inning, David Wright doubled to right center to start things off, and two batters later Tatis lifted a pitch to left center field for a homerun to give the Mets a 5-3 lead.

Tatis had a huge afternoon with two doubles and four RBI on the afternoon as the Mets beat the Giants 7-3. In the thrid inning he doubled to right to bring home Wright and Carlos Beltran, to give the Mets a 3-0 lead early.

On the flip side, the pitching was down right ugly; John Maine once again struggled with his control walking five in just four and two-thirds innings, and surrendering three runs. However Barry Zito wasn't any good either for the Giants. Zito gave up three runs in five innings.

But it was Tatis's efforts that proved the difference for the Mets. Once he homered it gave the Mets life. Nick Evans followed with a single and came around to score on a wild pitch. Later Jose Reyes singled in Brian Schnieder to give the Mets a four run seventh and a 7-3 lead.
The Met bullpen was great surrendering only one hit in four and a third innings of work. Billy Wagner, who has been struggling lately had a much needed quick ninth inning throwing only five pitches on the afternoon.

With the win the Mets have a season long six-game winning streak, as well as their first sweep of an opponent since sweeping Washington April 15-17. The Mets are four over .500 and still a game and a half back of Philadelphia.
