"I'm here for one reason. Not to do commercials, Broadway all those things," Favre said Thursday after joining New York for its exhibition opener in Cleveland. "I'm here to help the Jets win." (Withers AP).
Favre has a lot of work to do. He will have to memorize the Jets playbook in the next three and a half weeks before the Jets open the regular season in Miami on September 7. Still, this has to be an exciting time for Jet fans, who were heating up the air waves on Sports radio. Even WFAN host Craig Carton, in his morning show The Boomer and Carton Show, spent the entire program taking credit for making the deal happen, when he held a pep rally in Hempstead last week chanting, "Let's Get Brett". Well they got him.
Before meeting teammates, Favre and his wife Deanna, with the Jets Owner Woody Johnson and GM Mike Tannenbaum took a grand tour of the Jets new training facility in Florham Park N.J., as well as a tour of the construction at the Meadowlands of the new Giants Stadium. Favre was sold on the fact that he can live in either Morris, or Bergen, or Passaic counties, which all have a nice rural, country atmosphere that Favre likes.
