Mets Pen Continues To Stink

METS 5
PADRES 3
For the second time in this series against San Diego the Mets deserved to lose the game, even though the won the game. Johan Santana once again took himself out after 104 pitches, and once again the bullpen could not hold onto a 3-2 lead in the ninth inning.

Still inspite of it all, the Mets won the game, thanks to a two-run jack by David Wright to win it in the tenth.

San Diego got off to a quick start in this one, when Chase Headley blasted a solo shot off of Santana to give the Padres a 1-0 lead in the second inning.

Yet the Mets answered. Dan Murphy continues to be a pleasent suprise, as he doubled to the wall in center to bring home Carlos Beltran, and move Fernando Tatis to third. Murphy who is doing great in left field defensivly is hitting .467 so far after a week in the majors.

Nick Evans then contibuted with a single to center to bring home Tatis to make it 2-1 New York.

Santana was good, going seven plus innings giving up only two runs, both solo shots, while striking out seven and walking three. But, Santana got a no-decision once again.

In the ninth inning, Jerry Manuel over managed. Joe Smith was doing well, getting the first two batters to face out, but was taken out in favor of Scott Schoenwies because he was supposed to match up against Jody Greut, the lefty batter. However, Greut had better ideas, hitting a homerun to right to tie the game at three. It was Greut's third homerun in this series.

This is a huge concern, becasue the Mets bullpen just can't get anyone out; clearly the Mets are in big trouble, and it could cost them a shot at the postseason.
