Hey! Mets Actually Win Cleanly

METS 3
MARLINS 0

TGFOP: Thank God For Oliver Perez. Perez grinded it out against the Florida Marlins Firday night, throwing 119 pitches in seven shutout innings, as the Mets won their third game of this seven game homestand.

Perez dodged a huge bullet in the second when he found his way out of a bases loaded jam to keep the game scoreless, was the key to his success tonight. It was a much needed effort, after the Mets have had trouble getting their starters to push past 100 pitches in a game. Perez has been grinding it out for the past month and a half, and as a result is 8-7 with a 3.90 ERA.

Even Aaron Heilman pitched in, as he threw two shutout innings in relief to end the game. He also struck out three. This was a huge outing for Heilman who has really struggled as of late giving up one huge homerun after another. It was Heilman's first save in over a year; and it was the Mets first save since Billy Wagner nailed down a game against Florida over a week ago.

Offensivley, David Wright and Dan Murphy continue to lead the charge. Murphy continues to be impressive with his poise and patience at the plate. He takes pitches and works the count back into his favor. He was 2 of 4 with a run scored tonight.

As for Wright he blasted his second homerun in as many days; this one a two - run jack that gave New York a 2-0 lead. Later, in the fourth, Carlos Delgado hit a homerun to left that scrapped the wall of the bleachers and fell between the bleacher wall and the blue outfield fence.

The Mets are now in second place in the NL East.
