Disgruntled ex- Jets quaterback Chad Pennington didn't have to search for a new home for very long, as he signed a major two year contract to become the starter of the rebuilding Miami Dolphins. The deal is worth over $11.5 million over the two years.
The signing is interesting because, Bill Parcells, the former Jets Head Coach and GM, drafted Pennington back in 2000, and dispite the fact that Pennington has developed into an average/injury prone quaterback, Parcells still feels that the Marshall product has something left.
Hey, when Jon Beck and Cleo Lemon are the top two quarterbacks on your depth chart, even adding a slug, like the science fictional Joba the Hut would be an upgrade.
Pennington clearly signed with Miami not because they are a team with a promising future. They have no future at all - they are in complete rebuilding mode, but he signed with hopes that he can get revenge on the Jets for releasing him. And we thought Brett Favre had a BIG ego, for wanting to go to the Vikings.
Let's face it, all of these QB's are primadonnas who just want to prove to everyone that they are "the Greatest" to quote Muhammad Ali. Pennington and Favre are primadonnas, and both will get a chance to beat up each other coming September 7 when the season offically kicks off.
Pennington, for all the kindness and generosity that is inside of his heart, is not even close to being a better QB than Brett Favre. The Jets made the move based on performace reasons, not personal ones. Pennington went 1-7 as a starter last year, and constant injuries made him into a shell of what he was in 2002 when he led the Jets to a division title.
All of a sudden, a classic rivarly between the Jets and Dolphins that had been pretty much dead for the past nine years since Dan Marino retired, is back to life. Hurray!!!
